The lovely young lass at the
counter asked me if I was randy as I walked in. Turns out some guy named
Randy had ordered before me, but I sure felt welcome.
Captured by Mark:
A customer came in from Northern
California. He said, “You guys are being talked about in California! I
was at a gas station in a small town and I just happened to mention that
I was going to Boise and the guy told me ‘you have to go to Flying Pie’
and I told him that I love Flying Pie and that we go there every time we’re
in Boise!
Captured by Terra:
“You guys are the Cadillac of
pizza. No one can argue with Flying Pie. Hands down, it’s the ultimate.”
Ed purchased a 20” combo for a lady whose yard sale he had gone to, as
a surprise thank you. She was stunned and absolutely thrilled.
Captured by Stephanie:
I get to a customer’s house on
a delivery, complete the transaction and before I start to walk away the
really nice couple told me that I had to come in and see something. So
I walked into the very excited couples’ kitchen and was very pleasantly
surprised! Hanging above their kitchen table was our entire menu spread
out and framed. I was shocked! The couple smiled and exclaimed: “See- that’s
how much we love you guys. Your service is the focal point in our
kitchen.” I couldn’t believe it. That is probably the best example of customer
loyalty that I have ever seen. It definitely made my night!
Captured by Kristan:
This couple came in around 9:45
Saturday night. They ordered a pizza and some beer; they even filled up
a growler that they brought in. They sat in a booth and watched the show
the whole night. 11:30 came and they came up to the front counter and told
me they love spending their Saturday nights here. “There are so many places
that you can spend your Saturday nights – we choose the Pie. The atmosphere
is great, the music is great, and the people that work here are so inviting.
Also, might I add the beer and the pizza really complements the whole experience.
No other place in town has the Triple Pie and the Pesto Primavera. It’s
kind of Zen-like. I always feel refreshed when I leave.” Kristan responded
with, “We enjoy having you here; you are more than welcome here. Always.”
I must tell you – I’m a New Yorker
and when I moved to Boise I was homesick. However, the first thing (kid
you not) that made me love Boise was the exclamation point (!) after the
word ‘Library!’ on the Boise Public Library. Thank you.
The best place to come when you
are kindergarten student of the month.
I’ve been in Boise for 4 weeks
now. A co-worker tells me that I have to eat at Flying Pie. Well, it’s
obvious that I took his advice. Good people + Great food = customer for
life! Thank you, former Californian
The Good Stuff: Great, quality
food at reasonable prices. Listening to your customer’s feedback and making
changes to continually improve your product.
Captured by Justin Kleine:
I just called to say that I just
got both of my pizzas and they are fantastic! They’re wonderful and I wanted
you guys to know that. We’re moving you to the top of our pizza board.
One four-year-old loved the music
and was rocking out. She also loved the bathroom. “I thought it was just
going to be a normal bathroom but it’s not! It was so, so beautiful.” It’s
rewarding to know that we amaze our customer with far more than just the
great pizza, great beer, and great people at Flying Pie.
Warning to new Delivery Drivers:
Be prepared to sing and be hugged!
Report from delivery driver Peg
M:
Tonight I went to a delivery
and walked in on a birthday party. They were taking pictures and wanted
on of me- I said, “Why would you want a picture of me?” They said, “Because
we love Flying Pie people!” Anyhow, I joined in the singing of “Happy Birthday”
and before I left the ten-year-old birthday girl came over and hugged me.
It was very cool.
Said to Amanda M:
Your salad bar is the best! It
always looks great, the toppings are so fresh and good that I don’t even
put dressing on. The toppings seem to sparkle! There should be a new category
in the “Best of Boise” so your salad bar could win.
When I moved to Boise in 1979
Flying Pie was the place to go for pizza. Twenty-five years later and guess
what? Flying Pie is still heads and shoulders above the others! The very
committed and helpful people are as memorable as the pizza! Thanks for
another great experience!
Captured by Lesley:
“I want something dark and decadent,”
says a big, burley man with a bushy beard. “Give this a try,” I say, sliding
a free sample across the bar. “It’s the Delirium Nocturnum and it’s the
epitome of dark and decadent.” He tastes. He pauses. “Mmmm.. give me your
biggest pitcher and two glasses.”
A jolly old fellow ordered up
a slice, salad bar, and soda for lunch. When I told him the total, the
following conversation ensued:
“Did you get the salad?
I said “Yup!”
“What about the slice?”
And I said, “Yup!”
“What a great deal!”
And I said, “You also get free
breadsticks with that.”
“Wow!”
We’re really proud of the comment
we received from an exasperated, almost angry young fellow from back East.
Honestly, to hear him go on, you’d think the road to Boise wasn’t paved.
While looking at our beer cooler, he pointed and said, “That is not funny.
People here don’t know what that is; they can’t appreciate at. Why in the
world would you create that beer selection here, in Boise? That is a beer
cooler to die for and it’s 3000 miles from my home. This makes no sense.
I came here for the first time,
had a pizza- and had to come back four days later for the same pizza. I
craved it so much!!! Absolutely the best… I can’t wait to try the other
pizzas but I can’t get past how much I love this one yet!
Wow! I have never been so pleased
with a pizza place in my whole life! I mean, Wow! It’s really something
else when people you don’t know feel like family… warm and satisfying!
The pizza was incredible. I am
definitely a pepperoni and olive fan and you guys talked me into a crazy
spinach pizza that has now become my favorite!
“We’re from Nampa and whenever
my husband would suggest Flying Pie I would say, ‘No that is too far. Pizza
is pizza.’ Ok, I admit it… I was wrong! Pizza is not pizza! Flying Pie
is fantastic! Never change! We’ll be back – with family and friends!” Husband
speaking here: and it only took 15 years!
After 2 soccer games in one afternoon,
the only thing that would do for dinner is Flying Pie! Mom and Dad are
sunburned & sleepy and the kids are wired. Rx: 2 12” pizzas and a couple
beers, plus $3 worth of quarters to entertain the rugrats. Thanks for the
goof food, people, & suds.
You are better than Campbells
soup. You are MMMMM Gooder
Tonight I didn’t eat because I
was hungry. I just ate because it tasted soooo good! Today was also my
brother’s birthday! We were celebrating the fact that he was part of our
lives, and we came to you for a delicious meal, which was just as good
as when we first started coming here, about 1990. From Jessica, age 13
We just found “heaven.” I don’t
know if we timed it just right, or got lucky. But I only know of one place
where you can get excellent food, dynamite service & a little “Willy
Wonka” on the side. Flying Pie is the place to be.
I just returned from 9 months
in Bosnia and when we discussed where to go to celebrate, our daughter,
Christina, simply said, “Tradition.” The pizza is wonderful, it’s great
to see Dave again. I tell you – I could have sold this pizza for $200 every
day over in Bosnia. From Ric Holmes
Wonderful! Delicious! Just as
good as 20 years ago when I was a kid! Thank you, thank you! Now I feel
at home again. From Michelle, Mountain Home
Captured by Joe Levitch, in a
paramedic uniform waiting in line at Flying M Coffeehouse:
“Hey you used to own Flying Pie.
You’re Joe!”
“Yup! Something tells me I should
know you.”
“Yes, you do – it was about 11
years ago. I was eating pizza at the Fairview store with our three year
old daughter. We were extremely frustrated, having just come to town and
having no luck finding a place to live or a job for my wife, a nurse. You
were there and we struck up a conversation. You welcomed us to town, gave
us some ideas of where to look for a home & offered a lead on a job
for my wife. It was a turning point for us! We found a place, she got a
job at St. Luke’s, and we fell in love with Boise. Flying Pie has remained
a big part of our lives. In fact, my father-in-law, who travels a lot &
eats pizza everywhere, thinks Flying Pie is without equal. Here, let me
buy you that coffee.”
Brought my little brother in for
the first time (he lives in Northern Idaho), and he thought it was great!
Thank you for never letting me down, always proving me right, and always
impressing my out-of-town guests. Your employees are delightful singers
as well as positive, pleasant pizza professionals. Enjoyed the lunch special
and menu’zine, as always!
I’m a 36 year old professional
from Dallas, who visits Boise once a week, consulting for Micron. I am
a pizza lover. One evening I drove around in search of an inviting pizza
parlor and found one of your competitors who’s called Chicago or something.
I walked in and a young couple was checking out. I asked, “Is this the
best pizza in town?” They looked at each other and then at me and said,
without hesitation, “No, the best pizza in town is Flying Pie.” Well, I
walked out after receiving instructions to your place and it’s great! From
Dennis, in Dallas.
I’m not normally a great pizza
fan, but I had to try the Flying Pie! I heard about the restaurant from
a guy who grew up here. I met him on a plane flight from Xi’an to Shanghai,
China. I mentioned I’d be in Boise for my U.S. vacation and here I am (was).
From Suyame in Okinawa, Japan.
I am one of your food vendors,
so I will remain anonymous. I deliver all over the Treasure Valley and
there are darn few restaurants that I will eat at. This is because I am
very picky about cleanliness and the habits of the workers. I want you
to know that yours is the only pizza place I will eat at from Mountain
Home to Homedale. I know that you guys sometimes get a bad rap for your
older buildings. I always do my best to dispel any doubts. I think it is
much better to eat here, where the people care, than to eat at any chain
where the gum chewing, slack-jawed teenagers are haphazardly slapping toppings
on held over dough that wouldn’t serve to shingle a roof. Keep up the great
work and cleanliness standards. Thanks, oh yeah, the pizza is damn good
too.
It’s Father’s Day. The wife is
in McCall with our five year old. I just dropped the nine year old off
for a birthday sleepover. My daughter is in Denver (21 and working at the
University where she starts medical school this fall). So, where to go?
I think about all the restaurants in Boise and realize there’s only one
place in the whole town where I’ll be enthusiastically greeted as if I
were family when I walk in the front door. Sure enough, when I walk into
State Street, James yells, “Hey Ken! How ya doin’?” (Actually that’s better
than when I walk in the door at home). So I order a medium Zambini plus
one more to go, if it’s really $5.25. It is, so I do. Then I hold my own
beer tasting while your (really gracious) drink master (the blond guy with
the beard, Terry) patiently pours a tasting of just about everything on
tap!! Yessir! Father’s Day really doesn’t get much better than this. From
Ken E., Boise.
I like the way your people take
ownership for their responsibility in customer satisfaction. They present
themselves as sincere in their desire to please with a ready smile and
positive attitude.
I was one of your first customers
when you started on Fairview. I’ll never forget that first pizza – I’d
never seen that many toppings before! I was hooked and then met a girl,
a Chicago Connection franchise pizza eater and since it was true love,
I only ate franchise pizza from then on. But, as with all things, it has
ended. Maybe it was because every now and then I would come home with Flying
Pie on my breath or maybe she wasn’t the one for me… who knows. I’m back
with the “Pie” now & when I find another woman to love, she’ll have
to love Flying Pie & Me. Thanks for the great pies. From, William. |
